W124 E250D glow plug issue.
Hi, I have tried searching the forum for a similar thread, i did find a number of threads related to glow plug's..... but could not find find exact symptoms....please redirect me if i am wrong.
About 6 months back i had starting trouble, in which the preglow indicator used to flash but still the engine had starting problem...... i checked the glow plugs only one was working...hence changed all 5, replaced them with bosch duraterms..problem solved. about 2 months back the preglow indicator or the GPR (glow plug relay) did not cutoff after the starter is ingaged it kept glowing, which worried me as the plugs dont take much time to blow if kept on....afte r operating the switch 2-3 time it used to cutoff. Then probably a month back the preglow stopped comming on rather the GPR was not getting triggered. Found that the GPR was not getting switch supply at 15 pin......in route imideate fix that i could think of at that moment, connected a wire to pin 15 and routed it to the cabin through the accelerator cable gromet and when required connected it to the cigarret lighter +ve. From the forum threads i realised that OVP could be the culprit, checked it and it did supply voltage to 87pin. now the ABS light is on...darn ![]() I striped the ignition switch to see if 15 gets supply and it was fine since 15pin is common. Am i missing something......please could some one shed some light. or is there a circuit diagram for the Gp circuit. |

where Are you located ?
Free,Free,Free registration to Mercedes Electronic Parts Catalog for anybody
with a U.S. based Credit Card.(They won't charge the card) EPC-net Online - Subscription Step 1 of 3 ___________________________________________________________________ "plugs dont take much time to blow if kept on....afte r operating the switch 2-3 time it used to cutoff." The Pre-Glow Relay HAS "AFTERGLOW" up to 1 minute after START based on engine ambient temps. _______________________________________________________________________ If you've been operating the Ignition Switch (On/Start/Off On/Start/Off , Etc.,Etc. .... to get the GP relay to "Shut Off" you've got Ignition Switch AND OTHER problems! HINT: Check the GROUNDS for the Pre-Glow Relay itself !!! If the wiring or grounding in that circuit are BAD you'll chase Quixote all over the LowLands! _______________________________________________________________________________________ That is an Especial Pre-Glow Relay (It Can and Does disable itself when a Short Circuit exists in it's Power !!!!)

I am located in India.
I'll take a look at the ground connection today...but whats up with the ABS. Yesterday while driving down, the engine warning lamp which has a engine oil mark on it started lighting up intermediately...when the oil pressure gauge and temp gauge were showing normal. Today in the morning i checked the battery voltage, it was showing 11v started the engine still 11v..... can the problems be due to low voltage. First tomorrow morning i need to order for a regulator....for which i'll be removing the alternator today and need to see the part number before i order. |

LOW,LOW,LOW VOLTAGE !
The Low Oil Level Sensor is in the Oil Pan on the Left (Port-side) of the Engine
Oil Pan...That's the "Light" that I suspect you're seeing on the Instrument Panel Display. Check the dipstick ! 11 Volts D.C. WILL CAUSE ALL KINDS OF "FALSE" readings. Alternator removal is Un-Necessary for R+R of the Voltage Regulator.

Concerning the Glow Plugs if you did not ream or otherwise use something to clean out the Carbon from the Glow Plug Holes it shorten the Life of the Glow Plugs.
