After I purchased my Mercedes I looked around for an appropriate forum to discuss and learn about the minor issues that my car has. I found this forum and have been happy. Good people with tons of knowledge.

I have placed my second order with peach parts. The first came in just when they said it would.

I think it is important support those who are supporting the web with this information.

Most of the other forums that I have looked they consider old diesels like ours as dinosaurs.

I'm no longer an active MBZ renovator but I'll tell you that PeachParts also sells Honda parts so, if you have one of 'the other' cars, you can get stuff for them too!

The perception of Mercedes is a deep rooted one in most people. I have told endless stories at the office about what you mention, and generally I get back in return stares like I'm trying to teach my dogs chinese.

I sort of tuned a local guy who runs a very small shop into the Mercedes thing. He is from europe and worked on them over the years but never thought about buying one, more into the VW/Audi thing. I convinced him to keep a '99 e300 that he had bought to fix up and resell.

One year later and he has sold off the other family cars -- now his wife and teen daughter both have early 2000s C-Class. He has hardly put any money into any of them and he buys very cheap, travels hundreds of miles to scoop them up in out of the way places, usually with some fault the local talent can't fix.

Meanwhile, however, his daughter has now reported back that her friends are sheepishly telling her that their parents have been voicing concern over them hanging around with her... the neighbourhood intel is that he's importing drugs from europe on the side. (Three! Mercedes in the driveway... three!)

The people saying this all have one or more newer SUVs/minivans and second cars in their driveways....

All our friends are wondering about us too when they have seen our Mercedes, Is business that good? Many do not know a new one from an older one. As long as it is shiny.

My wife had someone who is acquainted with us stop and ask her about it today while we were stopped at the post office. Usually the same person just nods. The Gal drives a nice jeep and gets a new one every few years.

It is a great forum and luckily has maintained a pleasant and mutually helpful atmosphere.

Regarding our Benzes, what most people don't realize, is how little they are worth. Not a diesel, but our 98 W210 is pristine and looks like a new car. Probably only worth about $3k as a trade in yet I get comments about our expensive car from guys who have newish Toyotas or Fords that cost $40k.

To the OP, I was doing the same as you looking for MB Diesel technical help ca. January, 2000. I was referred from another site to Mercedesshop.com (The previous URL for this forum.) The fellows that started it, Bill and Danny(Correction, "Donnie") were UNBELIEVABLY valuable resources and I got the information I needed literally within the hour and it was NOT a trivial question.

The site has grown, changed and matured and CONTINUES to be THE place for MB Diesel technical information.

I can imagine that.. and its quite funny too. Not long ago I placed an order with peach to get a set of ball joints, a trans filter, centre support and some odd bits n bobs - grand total less than 90 bux.

My SIL has a corolla, which has travelled 100K and now requires maintenance. So she takes it to Toyota to hear a big bill, comes back, shows me the sheet and I agree to it. Similar parts for her "econo" car are crazy

transmission filter 50/-
fluid 8/quart - 6 required
brake lines - 45/piece
brake shoes/pads 150/
struts - about 110/piece
rears - about same.

She asks me how come mercedes benz parts are lower in cost. - Then I rub it in that I get the same MPG as her 1.8 gas corolla.

I get that at work too, people think Im loaded for some reason.

I have owned 4 300SDs and learned a lot about them here. I have also bought most of my MB specific parts here.
I too have put up with a lot of bull because I am a self-employed mechanic driving a MB. I finally scrapped my 81 300SD beater because folks thought I must be ripping somebody off because I was using a MB to chase parts for my business. Now I use my 617.951 powered 53 F100 to chase the same parts and folks feel sorry for me because it really does look like a beater
