Difference between a gasoline and diesel fuel tank?

Are there any major differences between the two? I'm gonna be using a gasser tank to feed a diesel. Any prep work? Adjustments? The original fuel system used an electric fuel pump, will that be an issue with respect to inlet/outlet location in-tank?
Thanks

The diesels have a supply and return line. The gassers do no have a return line.

im not sure what model we are talking about Joe, however my 280CE fuel tank has a return line just like all my other diesels.

It's a w140 S280... pretty much identical to the S320

On my 380SL which is now running an OM617 engine, I used the stock tank with no problems. I did make a couple of mods however.

First I removed the vapor system. Left the center connector open for a vent and tied off the other ones on the side of the tank. If you look closely you can see how this was done.

Second, I removed the electrical fuel pump and just tied the outlet directly to the steel fuel line supplying the engine. Cut away the existing hose on both ends, so you just have the bare fittings to which you can use 5/16 hose.

Here's the fitting with the hose crimp cut off.

Third, I replaced the gas strainer with the diesel one. You can see the difference in the screen mesh in the following image. The gas screen will definitely clog.

I'm quite sure yours will be very similar.

How will a gasser level sender do in a Diesel environment?

a gasser sender likely has a layer of varnish on it, but otherwise should be no different from the diesel one. pulling it, and soaking it in acetone then cleaning it would be a good idea, but I doubt it's necessary.
