Wastegate Hoses on 91/92 300D?
Can anyone help me identify the wastegate hoses on my 91 and 92 300D? As I mull over eventually removing the ALDAs, I'm trying to figure out whether it's an actual hose or a metal line.
Thanks.

I think it's a vacuum line feeding an actuator on the wastegate. totally different setup from the older vehicles.

I'm still a newb at identifying some parts. Where exactly is the wastegate? Is it part of the mixer housing between the turbo and the intake manifold? Or is it the canister down below attached to the turbo?

The OEM set up is a vacuum actuator and non-boost default (arm is extended). The modification is exactly the opposite, arm is retracted with boost on as default until pressure builds in the system and pushes the arm out, cutting the exhaust flow to the turbo drive propeller thus reducing the boost. All explained better than this in that post I suggest. The line on your OEM set up is a rubber vacuum line that comes through the passenger side partial wall that surrounds the engine. It connects up to one of those vacuum pods around the coolant reservoir area. All that crap can be eliminated for <$100 and about an hours work if you are so inclined. |

Thanks. I'd definitely like to do the conversion...and have read through that post before....but wonder if it might be beyond my abilities.
I've already had the two pressure converters (vacuum actuators) replaced on the 92, so hopefully it's good to go for many miles/years. The 91 has low miles (103k) but of course everything is original and old. Quote:
