everybody better take care of their 123 blowers!!!
Mercedes has pulled licensing to reproduce the motors, and they are going to get VERY PRICEY soon...
methinks I'll pull and store those before scrapping my cars too... and I'll pull the ones in my drivers and clean/oil/grease them for longevity! bearing failure is the big problem with the motors, the bearing is built into the frame of the motor, not a press in separate bearing... so clean yours and lube it!

I don't see what Mercedes has to gain from this other than a few extra bucks on parts sales. You'd think that they appreciate those of us who keep these cars on the road so long because it makes MB look good to have a car that lasts 30 + years.

Well, I've already got a couple decent spare blowers for my two diesels (Plus a NIB spare blower for my W114 coupe - price one of those today!). Otherwise, maybe I'll take a tour of my local Pick-N-Pull and see if one from a Chevy or Toyota can be made to fit.

If everyone will post all the numbers they can find ON the housing, etc..
we may can find where else that same one it available from... Also, a bearing which can not be pressed out... may be able to be drilled to a bigger diameter and a bushing pressed into it...anyone done anything like that ?

from what I remember last time I took one apart, the end of the motor has ball bearings built into the frame... and the armature shaft fits in the center... prevention is the only way to work with these bearings...

If something can be made... it can be modified and fixed...that has to be the motto or life would be very depressing for folks working on old worn out rusty stuff....( IE. Classic stuff )

The 1957 Mercury ( the pace car for INDY 500 that year )( We had the convertible in white with red streak , double chromed headlights ) had an automatic lubrication system available for the steering components. We did not have that on ours...
Perhaps a permanent set of plastic tubes could be run to our blowers and fed once in a while from some place easy to reach...

Hey it worked for Morgan for just shy of 100 years.
My 1966 4/4 has a tap on the oil pressure line that, IAW the manual, once a day or every 300 miles the driver presses a switch that looks like a floor mount high beam switch for 2 seconds that allows engine oil to run down the front supension! Leo |

At this point in time it would probably be good to warn people that typically an electric motor needs about two drops of oil per year... LOL

can anyone post the steps required to properly lubricate the motor? i love the idea of a permanent tube to send in oil, if that's what's needed, but not having tried this yet, i don't know how hard it is to do in the first place.
