Gas cap problem
A few months ago, late at night, I left my fuel cap at a filling station. I bought a replacement cap from someone on this forum, but it was from a 300sd, mine's a 300d. So right off the bat, maybe the cap was never meant to fit my car, even though it seemed to fit.
Every once in a while, I have trouble taking the cap ...OFF. I can't put fuel in the car! I turn it, and turn, and turn, and turn, and it won't come off. I push in while turning, pull out while turning, nothing works. Eventually, it comes off. What can go wrong with a fuel cap???? It does have the metal ring on the underside and an area that looks like it should notch into. The 2 are separated. When I turn the metal part into the plastic notched area, it seems like it's supposed to be there, but nothing seems to fix the problem. The cap goes on fine for the most part. Any ideas? 1991 300d, 155k |

got a pic? if you have a cap from an older car, the cap is a bit different. it'll work, but it'll be difficult.
My pull apart has tons of the right caps. and I have a dozen or so too... LMK. |
The replacement cap has a swivel inside that locks in place.
We have the SAME problem on our 300TE once in a while, a new one fixed it. However, it does this same problem on occasion. That's why I kept my original cap. However, the cap in my 190E is the same (updated type) but does NOT have this issue. Did you get the chrome or black replacement cap? |
