IIRC, the trap ox recall was only on the 85's is there any issues with the trap ox on the 87?
of all the 87's I have, this is the only one with it.

Where the heck did you find that? I am real close to the GA/FL border
it popped up in the craigslist thread here on the diesel discussion, and I immediately contacted the seller, and arranged a deal for it.

about 6 miles from exit 29 off i75 in Hahira, GA

Yes the trap-ox is a problem on the '87. Find a dealer who needs the revenue, and will do the replacement campaign. Oh, keep the old downpipe for me.

so, it's warranty? awesome! I might get a free turbo out of it?
there are 2 MB dealers near me, and if I get an alignment while it's there, it puts me in the 18 month roadside assistance program!

It was warranty, some dealers apparently are still honoring it according to periodic postings here. I expect that you'll have a better chance of getting them to persue the replacement campaign if you're already scheduling it for work (alignment).

A new turbo isn't definate. If there's nothing wrong with the turbo, no damage from the trap-ox, I don't think that it will be replaced. New turbo is nice though.

I should probably mention that I'm starting to dislike you John, ... I drove to Nashville for my wagon, paid much more, mine isn't silver, and it needed lots of stuff. Envy is starting to consume me. ;-)

I am simply and totally and completely AMAZED that I was able to get this car... yeah, I had no issue or second thoughts driving to get it. NONE.
I did have trouble on the drive down, my tow vehicle starting having trouble pulling hills and such on the highway... 6.2L C2500... new fuel filter and back on the road.
TOTALLY different symptoms from any diesel fuel filter clog I've ever run across... loss of power, and BLUE smoke when attempting to accelerate... I figured putting on a new filter couldn't hurt the issue... I was seriously thinking I'd need to change my IP on the road... (I did bring a spare with me)

you know a Diehard Diesel mechanic when even they bring a spare IP as a road side swap...

yeah, my brother looked at me like "you want to bring WHAT with you on the trip?"
but the truck had started acting strange a few weeks ago, and I did NOT want to miss this car!!!

it's really easy to change the IP on a chevy v8 diesel. nearly no timing difficulties, and it just bolts right in. ya set the timing marks on the gears before you unbolt the IP gear, and note where the timing mark is on the flange. swap, then line everything back up. aside from draining the coolant, and putting a new tc gasket or silicone on, it's about a 30 minute job...

I can't believe you found a 87 with the trap-ox STILL on the car!!

I can't believe you only paid $500.

I just joined the wagon club last week. But it cost me $2200 to get in, and I just spent $1000 on parts!!

new timing chain, and injectors and vacuum pump, and VCV went on this weekend!

And he still has TWO MORE coming his way! Well, only one really. He's going to whip my running replacement '87 (the blue one that used to belong to babymog) into shape - I just didn't have time before I had to move to Texas - and he'll be getting the wrecked one as a parts car.

P.S. - Don't worry John, red one is well covered up to keep the snow and ice out.
