My 83 300D (233,000 miles) gets about 26 in town and 30 on the highway. Combined I am getting about 28.

My 83 300Sd with 435K on the original motor gets 22.5 in town and that is a 5 tankfull average. Highway tends to be in the 28 MPG range. I've never done a 5 tank average for highway miles. Just for fun my 87 Escort Diesel gets 42 MPG around town and my 93 Gulfstream Motorhome gets 8 MPG. All of these are running on B100 homebrew for the past 9+ years.

1987 300TDT Wagon - 185,000
Avg MPG = 24
Best MPG = 27

I have never gotten more than 26-27 mpg...my average both in town and highway has been 22-24. I do have my ALDA removed but that did not change my MPG. Fluids and filters are changed frequently.

I am not sure what to think of this but I have read so many forums where people claim 28-35 from these but I have never seen it. I do tend to drive a bit heavy footed but I have gone several tanks "taking it easy" with no noticeable difference.

1987 300D...W124 with an OM603

~28 MPG long running average (over 4k miles). High of 33.5, low of 24.6 MPG (fuel leaks...).

A decent amount of my driving is highway. 10 miles to and from work @ 55mph (minus traffic / lights)

Personally I don't hold to much faith in MPG ratios.

I'm more concerned with gallon per mile which is a more accurate measurement of fuel economy.

Wait, how is the inverted quantity more accurate?

This blog post explains it.

http://www.greencarreports.com/blog/1019426_miles-per-gallon-is-just-stupid-no-really-it-is

In Europe, fuel economy is measure in liter per 100 kilometers. Obviously here it should be gallon per 100 miles, but there's some disagreement over which gallon we should use.

It's an interesting read and offers an insight into my a hybrid's 40 mpg isn't really any better than most cars.

All I see is an article speaking about how some people can't do simple math

Depends - anywhere from 21 mpg to 30 mpg, is what you can reasonably expect out of them...

I average about 30mpg in my combined driving. I have a 1990 300d with 310,000 miles on it. My worst tank full was 25mpg, my best tank of fuel 33 mpg. Im hoping to get a little more out of it with a wastegate actuator convertion and egr delete. Any body with the converted 2.5 out there that can tell me what to expect?

My 300TD W123 N/A OM.617.912 reliably gives 28 MPG, But Thats Imp Gallons, and on 100% BioDiesel.....

My old 190D 2.5 used to manage the low 40's

27-30ish

1985 300TD, 4-speed, engine swapped with factory rebuilt motor, but TMU.

On highway road-trips, I can consistently get 29-30 mpg. City/mixed, 26-27.

When running snow tires I usually see a 2-3 mpg decrease.
