hi, can anyone tell me the correct washers and sequence for the spin-on fuel filter hollow bolt? and is there a torque setting for that? I have only a crush washer, but the manual shows an o-ring and a crush washer? thanks, Chuck

There is a groove on the hollow bolt for the o-ring. It is unrelated to the metal seal (washer) which fits immediately under the head of the bolt.

Later models used an o-ring instead of the metal seal, so you might be looking at a diagram that shows both options.

You will have one of 2 setups.
An O-ring at the bottom and a Crush Washer at the top.
Or, an O-ring at the bottme and a larger O-ring at the top.

I measured one of the bolts I have and is 0.730 around the top of the bolt. This is closest to 3/4 of an inch but I think that would be too sloppy.

This is about 17.779999999980795 mm; or rounded up you need a Crush Washer with an 18mm inside diamenter.

In the CD Service Manual it said to loosen the Bolt first and remove the Filter from Below.
It did not give a torque for the Blolt.

thanks for replies. so i DO need a crush washer AND an o-ring? right now i have only a crush washer, so i'm not sure what mine is supposed to be (either washer/o-ring or o-ring/washer). I have an 82 300TD if anyone can check theirs. thank you. I've been tightening the nut like crazy as i was worried about fuel air leaks. (this is my first diesel...).

You are missing the O-ring.

The "O" ring is on the bolt itself, you'll have to take it out.
I use a (Dayco) #30 cap thread gasket part #35566B purchased from the local hardware store for the crush washer.

let me see if i get this, but is the o-ring on the bolt on the filter side? so i'd only see the crush washer on top? chuck

On an '82 model, yes. It will be incredibly obvious when disassembled.

Only the first option is correct for an '82.

Yes, as mentioned once removed you'll see it. I have this arraignment on my 83.
The pic is of my 84 fuel bolt.
