That's what I remember. If it's a 3 speed, first is toward you and down. Then follow above in order.

Either way, R requires you to pull against spring resistance. This is to avoid an accidental shift to R while moving forward and shifting up or down.

its a 4 speed 1st up 2nd down 3rd forward and up 4th forward and down...but to go into reverse i have to pull out then back and up takes some playing around with but it will go...anyone have any source to find out info on this car..the data and vin plate are missing i would like to know if the original color is actually white, i know its a repaint but engine compartment is also white...also if anyone would know what spec to adjust the valves to...VIN: 11011010277229

anyone know if theres a way to upgrade these cars to discs in the back? my shoes arent great new shoes are 170ea x4 or 70ea just for liner and id have to get rivets and rebuild them..anyone know a source for cheaper rebuilt ones or just lining?

Try Hemmigs classic car magazine, search online, or possibly check your local brake shops for someone to reline those shoes. Unless you want to change out the whole rear axle unit for one from a W108, I don't know how else you can convert the rear brakes to discs. Should be able to get the whole set of shoes relined for less than $170. In my area, White Post Restorations does this, though I haven't used them.
Several years ago, I had a set of shoes for my '57 DKW (very similar to the Mercedes shoes) relined by a shop I found online in Dayton Ohio, for under $40 plus shipping.

i was thinking the w108 im going to check it tonight to see if its possible i have a 108 i can check with.anyone ever do this conversion?..and its not 170 a set, its 170$ a shoe x4 shoes for the back 680$ for the rear set or if i just get the linings and rivets its 280$ plus cost of rivets

Reread your post and edited mine. There are other options. Those Mercedes prices are geared towards people restoring trailer-queens and show-cars!

yes i understand thats why im leaning more too is find someone that can just rebuild mine with some type of generic shoe or somthing i know theres places out there just trying to find one, preferably closer to me..i have 3 suppliers also and they only offer the front pads and no rear shoes...

I E-mailed the guy who did my DKW shoes, but it's been 8 years and I don't know if he's around anymore.
I'm pretty sure White Post could do the whole set for under $170. If your worried about possibly losing your original shoes in the mail, maybe you could take some time to search for an extra set of used shoes.
You never want to be in a hurry with fixing these old cars!

He asked if those were steel or alloy. His price for relining -

Steel shoes $55 set, alloy shoes $75 set, + shipping.
