Dash Warning lights

Exactly which dash warning lights are supposed to come on when you put the key to the on position??

My battery is not charging (which is for another thread and one i'm working on figuring out when I can find the time)
But in looking into this and the charging light not coming on I also read that all the warning lights are supposed to come on.... right now only my brake light, anitlock light and glow plug light come on.

The brights light comes on when the brights are on as do the warning light for the head lights, but they don't come on when the key is in the on position and none of the others do either..... changed all the bulbs but they still don't come one.

Any ideas on this one?? could all the light be linked to my charging problem??

Could my gauge cluster be bad??? (my temp gauge also doesn't work)

The other lamps should be coming on, as you suspect. In any case, the important one is the charge lamp. If it doesn't work (bulb burned out), the alternator won't charge the battery. Pull the cluster, check all the bulbs, replace any bad ones.

A lesser possibility for the charge system is the wire that connects the charge lamp to the alternator. Check the bulbs first, they are the most likely culprit. Don't just look at the bulbs, put 12 volts on them to confirm that they work.

The cluster does not go "bad" but individual parts could. Your temperature gauge is most likely a bad sender in the engine block. Other gauges OK?

the bulbs are good.... I switched around the known good ones and they still don't come one.

My fuel gauge was touch and go when I first started driving in but has worked fine for the last few weeks.

I suppose the regulator would be the next possible failure point. Whether it would affect the other warning lights I do not know.

Just grabbed one at vato zone to see what it does.... if nothing changes i'll return it.

My SRS light comes one when it is in the on position also I had forgotten about that one.

my headlight warning light actually goes off after i've been driving around with the headlights on for 20 minutes.

I'll report back after the deluge stops and I can get under the car.

By the "headlight warning light" you mean the one just left of "ANTILOCK" that looks like a bulb with an exclamation point in the middle?

Did your voltage regulator come with new brushes for the alternator?

If old brushes lose contact, you'll only get a few of the dash lights and no battery charge.

I've never seen a regulator for this car that didn't include the brushes. Know something I don't, Scott?

actually got a few minutes to spend on my car last night.... one thing I did notice is that there was oil on the contacts for the harness on the alt. It appears at some point before I bought the car there was an oil leak from the turbo and there is lots of oil over there. Could that cause the alt to short out????
