That's so awesome! Before I got my 86 300E I was soooo close to financing a Discovery. I love Land Rovers and do believe it is the true off road vehicle. I'm not putting down Jeeps, because we own one, but I do believe Land Rovers own the off roading world!

WTH ? .

I'm glad you didn't _slide_ all the way down Rt. 62 ! that's a nasty hill .

My heater was working damn good up there in Yucca Valley(thankfully), to the point where I had to turn it off at times because the cabin was getting too hot lol. My A/C works, although I noticed it started declining in the coldness factor twords the end of the summer. It held up real well though which is cool. Yeah that hill always gets me, the speed limit up is 60 and I usually chug along at 35

Our hot weather sucks, I remember it being 10:00 at night and it being 110oF outside. I rolled the windows down and it was like a hair blow dryer in my face.. and those days where it's 125oF ugh, all you hear is air conditioning units.... vwnate if I may ask, where are you located? Are you in the valley?

No ; I'm in Pasadena but I travel a LOT and spend the night in Yukka Valley at least twice a year during the So. Cal. TT Runs , once on a Moto and the other in my old Mercedes Diesel .

Plus , every August SWMBO says we have to vacation in Indio....

For those who don't know , Indio , Ca. is at the gates of hell and they have date fams there with millions of dates rotting on the ground in the 120* F heat , this of course brings out , oh about a ZILLION flies who are either eating the dead dates or trying to land on your lips or yes...

other than that , it's a nice place to vacation

Snow tires

Drove an unplowed Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago last night in my 95 E300D with new Michelin X-ice tires. The car handled amazing. Front wheel drive cars were spinning out all over the place. ASD kept me straight as well as a light foot on the accelerator. Snow tires are a must.

I'm very prejudice against other SUV's and other off-road vehicles...But I will publicly admit that the older model Jeep CJ 7's are an amazing off road vehicle...With the correct tire and suspension set-up -- They are GREAT. And as I've discovered - most 'informed' LR dude's will agree.

Between last night and about 20 mins ago we had about 13" of snow here. I had no problems driving it it. I put about 200lbs of sand/salt in my trunk + all the other junk in there, and have good tires....I've yet to get stuck. Its all in how you drive and your tires. Some dumb person on my street apparently backed out of his space and got super stuck in our alley behind the house today, he tried to get it out, and has now left his car there, stuck, right in front of my entrance/parking space. I had no issues....when I get home later if his POS is still there I am dragging it out myself. I have the 5000lb tow straps in the trunk. You don't block a MB's parking space!

The SDL is tucked warming into the garage, not to come out again until May.

Today we got our first real snow, I guess we are supposed to get 6in or something so not to much.

I took my friends new toy for a ride, its kick ass in the snow! More fun than any car!

It actualy has real tires to so you can get some traction.

I dont want to start a feud, but on the landcruiser forums, we call our trucks the Landrover recovery vehicles, not necessarily for there offroad capability but for their reliablity.

It sucks the Landcruiser diesel was never sold in the US, or im sure you would be driving one today.

I NEVER thought i'd ever be SNOWED IN in LA County, but here in the high desert(and mountains outside of Palmdale, CA). I was snowed in for 2 days and got out this morning. I was afraid I'd hurt my Euro 500SEC, but she did fine in and out and even backing(read slipping) backwards into a ditch this morning trying to "back" out of a situation. Guy in a H2 Hummer Pulled me out with no trouble and no damage to The Bluebird! Thank God for the tow eye. Back home OK and the Bluebird is put up for the duration. The duration will probably be tomorrow! as the snow is melting very fast today. Still have several inches left of the over a Foot on the level and 2-3 foot drifts. I need a 4X4 and a Tractor!...for the one time in years it does this up here. Maybe more than One would think this year!!!

I'll never make a joke about a H2 Hummer again. I will say this wasn't the run of the mill Mall Hummer with the Gawdy Wheels and never in 4WD, Bimbo driven ones seen all over CA. This Hummer is equipped. I should have snapped a picture. Truly Awesome Off Road vehicle.

I totally agree Land Cruiser is the ultimate off roader and in Poland where I came from You wouldn't see it with gas engine, neither with auto transmission. All manual diesels, that apply to many other SUV's in general.

On the other subject I must say that MB with the rear drive isn't bad for me to drive in the winter at all, I actually love it the way it sticks to the road.
I am just getting winter tires and for now I drive on terrible (summer) tires, somehow I manage to get by in this Chicago winter and 10 inch of snow

Today I had to drive through a snow drift about 2.5-3 feet deep to get out of the parking lot at work.....got "stuck" multiple times, = lots of burninating....the snow was DEEEP. Road was not plowed at all. Took me 30 minutes to drive 2.3 miles home. Made it though.....always do. I love my car. It'd be nice if it had a locking/limited slip diff though....

vancouver s a gong-show

This city is ridiculous in the winter. The snow always seems to senak up on the entire region. The power goes out, the roads are an abyss, everybody panics. Why, not two years ago there were water riots becase some over-zealous civil servant accidentally admitted the water might be "turbid" for a few days. people were crawling all over each other for bottled water in the supermarkets. Old women wer thrown to the ground to make room for the fast and the frenzied. Bus service practically shuts down on even the major routes. I personally helped some gal in a vw gti today get unstuck, only to watch her herd her rig into another ridiculous stuck half a klick down the road. She had summer tires on, not even all seasons. the road conditions are: six inches of snow on top of black ice. What the #@$& is wrong with these sick people??? Why is this city so insane???

"Playing" in a parking lot will get the attention of the Police around these parts. Weather it's snow or asphalt donuts are illegal.

My 300SD works fine for me in snow and ice, but I have been doing it for years. Posi-trac helps out a lot too. I have learned over the years that if you intentionally spin the tires all the time in snow then your fuel economy goes down bunches.
