Wow Super cool! I love our 3rd row seat - the in-laws are in town from Canada, and we are getting a lot of use out of it!

I am sooooo jealous of the headrests - it is on my wish list!!!

Dee8go 12-23-2008 04:24 PM

Hey, that's okay, Chad WE get excited. That head rest really does look great.

Dee8go 12-23-2008 04:25 PM

So, that SEM stuff sprays on? The Leatherique I used on my car could be sprayed, but it doesn't come in a spray can. I painted it on with a brush, but your appears to have been sprayed.

Chad300tdt 12-23-2008 04:36 PM

I can always count on my forum family to be there for me with support and genuine interest.:D

Yup, it sprays on and came in aerosol cans. It covers really well and I think the 3 cans of color coat I bought will do the complete third row seat and all associated pieces in the earlier pics I posted, plus have left over to do some other interior stuff. At about $10 per can, it's worth every penny.

If I had to guess based on what I've sprayed so far, I'd say it's going to take 8 or nine cans to do the entire interior (carpets excluded). I'll update that actual data once I finish everything.:D

Zeke, I still need to get the hardware for the 60/40 seats to be able to use those headrests. I'm just waiting for Asnowsquall to get the time to pull the stuff I need and ship it down here.

Interior looks great Chad! I used a similar product when I re did the vinyl parts in my Corvette. I painted the arm rest and it still looks great, years later and that thing gets a lot of wear.

Thanks Evan.:) Your experience is reassuring. I was wondering about long term durability, but I figured it's cheap enough at $10 per can to keep an extra can around for occasional touch ups if needed.

Does that product somehow absorb into the vinyl or dies it just sit on top of it? I would think it would have to absorb into it in order to have any permanence.

It's not a dye, so it doesn't absorb into the vinyl. Here's the product description and tech sheet link.

Product Description:
COLOR COAT is formulated to match, restore or change color on most vinyl surfaces, flexible and rigid plastics, carpet and velour. COLOR COAT is fade resistant, flexible and is a permanent coating.

Interior Colors

Hey Chad you know that MB still sells the original dye for the seats. The ratwagon has a palimino (pinkamino) interior and I will be buying some of the dye. Only thing is that you need spray system to do it.

Chad300tdt 12-23-2008 06:54 PM

Really? I didn't know they dyed them. I figured they bought the vinyl colored that way from whoever the manufacturer is and then made the interiors from it.

I have everything to spray except a spray gun. My old one broke and I never got a new one. I still have a couple airbrushes though.:)

How much is the dye?

Those headrests turned out great!

Santa is bringing me a set of Ronals that need a LOT of elbow grease before going on next spring.

Thanks Brad.:) I've given up on trying to find a set of Ronals for my wagon. My new quest is for 98-2000 16" CLK wheels.:D

Make sure to post pics of your wheels when you can. Before and after would be cool.

TchTchr 12-23-2008 08:26 PM

It has the standard bundts on it now. I'm thinking about painting the spokes black or color coded manilla beige. I'm leaning towards black or leaving them silver. Will post pics (probably next spring).

I wonder if our librarian would notice if I swapped her rims from her CLK for my extra set of bundts?:sneaky:

Chad,
I didn't forget about you its just been nuts, especially with my wagon acting up. Its now sitting at work in the parking lot. Fixed one problem, then we got a really cold snap and I forgot to start it at lunch time. Hopefully today it will be warm enough to start today.

Like I said the hardware isn't going anywhere, and hopefully I'm not holding you up to much.

Have a Merry One!

Dave
