I don't think a restriction has been placed on the rally as a "diesel-only-run."

Maybe I missed it........?

Let's see, we could get some nice 18" AMG alloys for the E300, E55 springs and shocks, E55 cat-back exhaust, Rocketchip bump to, say, 250hp and 300 ft-lb...


I most likely won't attend, but I think we can say for certain that a heavier, less powerful, less dynamic SDL won't be able to keep pace with a 12-year-newer E300 turbo.

You have to remember this is on public roads.

If its head to head I'll fire up the V1 and run balls out 120. Your car is good for about 130-135, so you will trip all the cops.

Thanks for the input everybody.

I have a friend helping me with the website;I'll post it a day or two after x-mas. The Silver Star 1000 is slated for May 28-31.

Any other ideas on who to contact for getting the word out to other mercedes owners?

My original thought was to bring my 1982 240D Manual transmission.

But then someone mentioned 1995 or older, and I have a 1995 E300D, which would be a cakewalk compared to the 1982 240D.

Then someone else mentioned 1995 and NEWER being in a different class.

So my 1995 E300D is the last of the W124 body style, and non turbo.

Would it be classed in the "older" group or the "newer" group??

Anyway, I think that it sounds like fun, whether I can come or not.

Hire drivers and bring them all. I would love to see your 380sl, sec, or td euro personally. I know I'd use both my Benzes, a friend is willing to help me with this.

I need to do some homework with this. Did they start the new engine in '95? I'm sure someone you would have a quick answer for me.

I may have to decide what year is considered vintage and modern based on the model of the car. (ex post 1989 107 SL models considered modern) Thoughts?

'95 was the first year for the 24-valve 606, but it was only turbo'ed in 98-99. I'd think 95 would be the cutoff date because it was the last year for the W124 chassis, 96-99 diesels were W210 E-classes.
