Scuffed my flywheel with a grinder...is this a problem?
Hello,
I'm swapping the engine in my '80 240D and had to grind the head off of one of the flywheel bolts on my old engine in order to swap the flywheel onto the new engine. In the process, i managed to scuff the hub of the flywheel with the grinder. The damage seems superficial, but is this the type of situation where even the slightest damage means I need to replace the flywheel for balance reasons? Thanks for any help, pics of the damage are below.

You will need also to check the flywheels for neutral balance. Did you mark its position on the crank? If they are not neutrally balanced you will need to match balance them so that the one you are installing matches the crank on the engine you are using.
Most likely it is neutrally balanced but you need to be sure because if it is not you will have big problems if you install a mismatched flywheel on the engine. And I agree the scuff is not in an area which will cause any trouble. Tom W
