Are these observed temps possibly right??
My 350SDL has been running around 100-105, so I took my Fluke IR temp tester and checked the temp of the fan clutch. At 300 degrees F it spun freely, thus I am thinking that it is dead. There was absolutely NO resistance to the free wheeling of the blade.
Having done that, I checked some spots around the top of the engine: upper radiator hose 312 degrees, water outlet to upper hose 299 degrees, air intake 119 degrees, IP, 203 degrees, exhaust manifold 475 degrees. top of radiator 295-304 degrees. I think the IP, exhaust and air intake manifold are about what you would expect, but not those hi temps for the cooling system. Through all of this, the temp gauge indicated 100+/- degrees. What gives??
