Check out my W115 300D - Just Purchased This Week
103K original miles fully documented by the service records at Bellevue Mercedes in Wa. State. Leather, original paint, AC, wood dash.

I paid $5,500 for the car. Quite a bit of money but it is completely rust free, always garaged and it looks like it has never had any body work.

I think it's great that people still see the value of these old cars and are willing to pay a premium for them. Could be the best $5K you ever spent. Unfortunately the insurance cos. don't agree unless you have an agreed value policy.

The driver's seat is still comfortable but it is a little 'squishy'. I drive for about 50 minutes each way to work and it seams to be fine.

I have the exact same car but with slightly higher miles. I just changed the brake master this evening in about 15 minutes (bleeding will be tomorrow night). We drove the car me, wife and two little boys from home (santa barbara) to San Bernardino and back in 100 degree heat with the A/C on full blast and she did fine. Mine uses about a quart of oil every 1000 miles. Idle is very smooth.

Envious
I'm "extremely" envious. To find such a car is a dream of mine. I actually prefer the 115/114's to the 123's, stylistically and in terms of the seats.

Am thinking that's actually a 114 chassis, based on the larger grill. Compared with w123..... the earlier model 114 has much larger trunk space, better center console, slightly roomier interior and larger engine compartment. It also weighs about 500 lbs less than the w123, so it should be quicker off the line. I believe the 300Diesel was available in this body style only 2 yrs. Drawbacks and weaknesses of the 114 include inaccessible heat blower motor (if it ever dies), driveline center support bearing that wears out at about 120k miles and an incredibly light rear-end that requires 50 lb. sandbags in the trunk for driving in snow.

yes. congratulations. I too recently bought a 115. 1976 300D. Silver body/red interior. Unfortunately, mine has rusty floor boards and a leaking rear windshield. The rest of the body looks very good except for one rust bubble in the corner of the right front door. It has one crack on the dash, a scratch on the wood finish and the rear dash carpet has faded. It seems to run ok but this is my first Mercedes so I have no reference to judge it by.
There are a few other faults like a vacuum leak in the green circuit(whatever that's for), low vacuum from the pump(5 inches at idle, 10 when revved), air conditioning compressor seal leaking(thus no a/c) and a broken hood star. I only paid $2800 canadian dollars but if I had the money, I would gladly pay what you did to have all those bugs gone. Thats what they are: bugs. The car is a fully functioning, original, with much more going for it, as is, than my VW Rabbit but, these "bugs" bug me. When a car has something, it should work. I am not happy when it doesn't even when I never even had it before. I am also disappointed in the fuel economy. My VW diesel used to get 55mpg. For the first month with the Mercedes, I calculated it at around 20mpg. Later, after using some injector and fuel system cleaner, it went up to 23mpg. That was based on half a tank before additive and half a tank with additive. I haven't used a full tank since but, hopefully, the stuff did its job and will improve even further. You drive yours enough; what do you get for mileage? The car is nice but slow. And if it only gets 23mpg for 70hp, I'd sooner get a Chevy V8 with 250hp and similar mileage. Sacrilage words here I suppose. I appologize. I do love the car. And I love your car too. Lets see some pictures of the engine compartment and interior. Arz
