300D's - How Long Do They Really Last??
I always read for sale ads of 300D's claiming "its got 245k miles now and will go to at least 500k....". Does anyone in the forum actually have a good running 300D with 500+k miles on it?? How much work was done on it to get it to go this high in miles??? Just want to know if these claims are real.

Do a search on the K&N, it lets in more dirt and less air. So if your trying to suffercate your car then put in a K&N but if you want your car to breath then put in MANN,mahle, hengst or any oem paper filter!!! EDIT: read this thread K&N Filter Efficiency Tests

these engines will go for millions of miles, but it all comes down to prevenative maintence and keeping attention to the fluids. and not wrapping it around a pole |

I have a little over 350K on the original engine/head. Realistically, I wouldn't be surprised if I have to rebuild the engine in the 400K to 500K range. I replaced the transmission at about 270K, which isn't unusual. I'm also on my third timing chain (one due to a vacuum pump failure). I also replaced the IP recently due to some pesky fuel leaks.
To answer your question, they will last indefinitely if you are willing to maintain them. |

like i said i got 470k lol, me and my dad just did a inframe rebuild on his t-600 kenworth trans truck, if we can do that doing my 300d is a walk in the park, im want to rebuild the engin with the turbo, after that NO WORRIES that im gona have this car over 1 mill
only reason we did rebuild on the kenworth is cos 1!!! sleve o ring was bad and we had blowby, hell if its apart that much ..we did everything and his truck has over 4 million on it, i will take a pic to prove it if u want lol ![]() are inframe rebuild kits cheap for mb? ![]() ![]() at what rpm does it start to build boost tho it will bounce around 1psi - 2999psi at 3k is when the turbo stops making a wistel noise and the will go right up to 9 then so 3k is right? A diesel will go a long way even when it's compression is low and it's parts are worn. The only problem is getting them to start. If such an engine is acceptable, where failure of a chain or a tensioning rail, or an oil pump might happen on any given day, then there certainly are engines that will run at 500K. However, I don't think you'll find any of these engines anywhere close to specification on valve guides, camshafts, rings, IP calibration, chains, etc. They really are on borrowed time..........although they may go for quite some time on it. |

You guys running Flowmasters kill me, you want a muffler with no internal restriction for a turbo vehicle... let alone a diesel. You were probably faster with a stock exhaust.
Anyway, I've seen a few high mile parts cars... one was just over 400K. Many are in the 180-230K range which is about normal for a driver. Most have met their demise with neglect or car wrecks.

A friend in Europe had a 300TD with 810000km at the moment of the rebuilt.
The car was however foul running toward the end (unbelievable chain strech on it, don't remeber how much though). Woodruff keys, valve cleaning, head seals and valves seat seals changes were the main items that allowed the car to get there (plus of course all the regular maintenance). you can't get to 500k without a serious look at the head seals beyond 300k.
