Darn I was just over in Escondido at Matt's place we drove right by Vista on the 78 freeway. We could have looked at it and it might have given a new perspective on it. Is the rest of the car in good condition otherwise?

Maybe Kickdown solenoid....

how often do you put your foot into it that far that the non-functioning switch is a hinderance???

Look at me, I have hundreds if no thousands of hours in my mercedes, and LOTS of money invested in just maintainance issues, and I'm nowhere near the point of giving up on it.

That's what I was thinking, I almost never use the kickdown on my 300D. If the cable is adjusted correctly, it will downshift long before you hit the switch under most conditions. If I do (rarely) want to force a shift, it's easier to use the shift lever. It would probably take me weeks to notice if it stopped working, now the 240D is a different story.

I understand the fustration. Mine downshifts from 4-3 no problems but I can't ask it to go any further down unless I'm going less then 10mph, then it will kick down 3-2. Hey, remember I have a brand new trans in mine and it still behaves like that, and I know everything works / adjusted right.

Try tightening the cable about a half turn, you may like it better. I prefer the cable adjusted so I can control the downshifts with my right foot. I also have a (fairly) new tranny, but adjusting the cable is sort of a "personal preference" thing.

Wow...that was quick! If you didn't like that it didn't downshift, I'd not get a 240....68 horses under the hood, and only if they are healthy. 300SD's are pretty quick. Mine hauls
