Are you suspect, that yours is high?

I don't really know the answer to what "normal" would be for that engine without knowing mileage and other factors, but I would expect at least a quart every 3,000 mi./5,000 km would not be excessive for most automobile engines.

sorry, mileage is 200000km/125000mi and consumption is app 1l/1000km. No blue smoke is goin out and I don't see any oil leak on engine. Is that normal condition or I must check other things. Engine is 601 912 ... 1991 200 diesel and working fine warm or cold ( on start )

This is a turbo version correct?

If so, other members have found that the seals in the turbo have failed and causing such high oil consumption. If I recall, there was not very much blue smoke and this may be due to the increased air from the turbo.

I have never done the repair myself but those who have, claim it is very simple and inexpensive. There should be a seal and bearing kit available locally from someone who handles parts for your particular brand of turbo. The work needs to be done in a very clean environment.

Good fortune and hope that helps!

Something's not right. Unless you are driving 160 km/h all day long, and/or rarely give the pedal a rest from being glued to the floor.

Have you measured blowby? There should be almost none. A little mist is fine. If it is excessive: It may need valve seals.

Did you run a compression test and confirm numbers? How's the timing chain stretch, anyway?

The car also may have sticky rings that aren't sealing well. In which case, just keep driving it until it gets better...or worse. You could have a broken ring, in which case it will not get any better.

The thing is, once the head is off, you may discover things you didn't want to know and become compelled to fix everything.

How many kilos on this engine?

Interesting. 200D w124 = 75 hp. Couldn't be turbocharged. My MB (a '91 2.5T) yields 121 hp. Also, the chart says fuel economy = 5.3 l./90 kph, 7.0 l./120 kph, 7.9 l. city. I presume that means L/100Km. If so, that converts to 44.38 mpg/90 kph, 33.6 mpg/120 kph, 29.77 city driving. Not bad for a putter.

1 l/1000 km is certainly high. A non-MB diesel I had in the past, with that kind of oil consumption, definitely left a smoke trail. The problem turned out to be valve seals.
