83 300D-T Doesnt start, but keeps cranking....by itself!!

Hi gang,
I took half a day off work today to finish putting the seats back in rag doll and several small parts.

We had our first 'cold snap' last night, got down to around 40 degrees, and its probably under 60 right now.

This morning, I cleaned the banjo bolt on the exhaust manifold, removed the "bolt on" fuel filter and checked the ORings, primed the system about 30 times and then tried to start it. The car cranked but would not start, then I tried going again after a few glow plug cycles. Pretty soon, when I turned the key off, the car kept cranking, here I am with key in hand, and they car is cranking by itself while I'm sitting there.

I looked under the hood to see if I could stop it, but then it stopped on its own. I tried to start it again and it did the same thing, self cranking after I pulled the key back to "0" .....this time it was cranking very slow, and ran the battery dead. I;ve got it on a charger right now to put the battery back up.

But before I try to go out and restart christine, does anyone have any idea what happened here??

TIA Dub

could be ignition switch or starter solenoid sticking, I think. Try this: if it does it again shift it into reverse. This should open the neutral starting switch. If the cranking stops, check the ignition switch. If it doesn't, check the solenoid. hope that helps.

I second what he just said.

I just hooked it to the battery charger, maybe not being driven in a week caused the battery to drain??

Started right up. And is running good now.....

I think the hoses that go intothe inline fitler are leaking because tehres always bubbles in the inline filter and they keep appearing....perhaps I'll order some new stuff aloong with the cigar hose.....

Thanks gang.

Bubbles in the filter are normal.
