Popping noise coming through speakers

I have a '92 300 CE that has a popping noise coming through the speakers of the car when it is running.

Any ideas??

How's your alternator doing? Have it checked. Abnormal voltage fluctuations sometimes manifests itself in occasional speaker noise when the amp transistors occillate erratically.

Other than that, do you sit your cellphone on your console? The fader knob is on the console, so audio interference can occur in that area.

When the phone is polling for a signal, its emission picked up in the audio signal path translates to a rhythmic popping sound.

Sometimes we get a few getto gansters driving through the neighborhood with their pimped-out carriages. The bass floor-speakers in their trunks are so LOUD that many times the rattling of the car drowns out the crap they're listening to. Stupid teengaers of today are a real hoot!

Cars were never designed to deal with those sound pressure levels anyway...even well-built cars like Mercedes!

After a year of enjoying my subwoofer-enhanced W124, I have had to replace the third brake light housing...the already-heat-battered original unit disintegrated from being the nearest recipient of the subwoofer output from the rear deck!
