93 400E antenna problem - limit switches?

I'm trying to fit a new antenna mast in a friends 93 400E, and each time I try (3rd mast), the antenna motor unit pulls the toothed cable out of the mast end.

As I noted, I'm on my third mast, and I'm guessing the antenna motor is simply running too long, or its limit switches are out of adjustment? The antenna motor does start and stop with the radio, but it keeps pulling the toothed cables loose from the masts.

This is getting frustrating, not to mention a bit costly. I have yet to look into the motor unit itself, and not sure what to look for anyway. Any ideas would be appreciated.

As far as I know, there is no limit switch inside the antenna. It is done by current limiting. When the motor draws too much current, extending or retracting ( hitting its limit of travel ) then the motor will stop. It looks like the electronic is not functioning as it does not stop retracting.

Hope this help.

I took it all apart, and you are right, there are no limit switches. I guess the circuit board is cooked. Thanks for the reply.
