Water in Trunk/Passenger Seat 300d limo
Greetings,
We just moved to France (had to sell our babies, 84 300td with third seat and 84 300d, both in perfect shape, really!) but I'm now looking at a 300d 7 seater limo (there are no turbo's over here that I know of). Anyways, the 1981 300d limo is in pretty good shape. It's been resprayed to I think a Mercedes deep blue and the job was well done. The seats are cloth (original) and in pretty good shape. It looks and runs just like our cars (but a bit slower) that we sold but it's a bit longer and has two folding seats midsection in the car. The milage is 55,000 km. Now I don't think this is correct but everything checks out so far, original tires also original tire in trunk. Not much wear anywhere but it looks like it's been sitting around for a long time. It starts up fine and sounds really smooth. Upper control arms have been replaced and lower arms look good. I believe it needs engine mounts because when I turn to the right the block hits the exhaust pipe and makes a noice. The car is from Monaco and was one of three used by a hotel to pick up guest from the airport in Nice. The owner is keeping the two other petro limos but I think this one is two slow for him. He dirves 280SEL 6.3 and 450 6.9. He's a local dealer here. To my questions: It rained recently and the trunk was very wet as was under the passenger seat and rear seat passenger side. The trunk seals look good but the tail lights seals have worn out and in places are missing. Could this be where the water is coming in from. Also, the rear glass seal was replaced a year ago and looks good. As far as the interior, I think I need to open up the rear door panel and clean out the drain holes. Any ideas that may cause the leaking? Also, around the front glass, bottom seal, there is rust bubbles! What should I do to stop the rust? I'm considering selling our van and buying this beast! Anything I should look for, any suggestions??? I'll post a pic of it soon. Thanks for all your help. Clifford |
