Filter bags
Hey folks, can anyone tell me a good place online where I can buy some decent 1 to 5 micron filter bags for my WVO filtering? Prefer washable/re-usuable, but anything is good for a start

I buy mine from a guy on ebay, dudadiesel or something. I only buy polyester bags, not nylon. Because I have a air pressurized system to filter 55 gallons to 1 micron in 12 minutes. But it takes a strong set of bags of graduating (or ungraduating (finer and finer toward the outside)) microns clamped over a PCV trumpet of sorts I put together.

I used to get mine from McMaster Carr. I used the 5/1 Micron Two-in-One High-Capacity Felt Filter Bags.

I recommend doing a search on centrifuge, using filter bags was my first approach. but it was to laber intensive and when I let the wmo and rug mix seat for several days I still got a lot of junk. Just to see how good the centrifuge are, I run a mix filtered with bags and let it seat for several days. After several run in the centrifuge, I still got a lot of junk.

fwiw I settle at least a week in the sun, and then I have a good flow rate through a 10+1 micron pair for at least 40 gallons, which is the most I ever do at once. I stop pouring when the "ghosts" come (what my toddler calls the gravy). Then I wash out the bags with a couple squirts of dawn in the garage sink and hang 'em in the sun to dry.
The inch or three of gravy in each cubie gets combined together and resettled. Eventually I pour all the gravy over the compost. If I only settle for a couple of days, the flow rate starts to go down significantly after about 10 gallons. So a whole week or more of settling makes filtering easier. This is in LA weather. For my needs and location a centrifuge is unnecessary. and x3 on dudadiesel.

centrifuge
I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty (150 miles a day commute) that is my wifes and a 2005 Mercedes E320 CDI 75 miles a day commute. I have to have a centrifuge because stopping to fill the veg tank is hard enough changing filters more than every oil change is a pain.
I filter though the centrifuge 4 times plus I heat it beforehand overnight. I used a Kill-A-Watt power reader and it works out to about $.04 cents per gallon of fuel to filter it. Probably cheaper than filter bags. And I have a mostly automated system. I just have to transfer every day I filter.
