Most likely speedo error. 101 mph is the rated speed for rpm givn the gearing. Unless you changed your wheels and have a greater diameter than 25.7 inches.

I have a question. I am curious....Does the CDI shift at it's redline, or a few hundred rpm's before it? I have seen videos of E300TD's and they all are set to shift several hundred rpm BEFORE redline.

To be honest, I got to the 110 mph, and was a bit scared to get sited by a cop (even though the road was a relatively safe one, 110, is jail time).. anyway I didn't stay there long enough to carefully note the RPMs accurately.. 2900 was what I recall seeing when I glanced at it. They may have been on the decline due to my deceleration from 110 when I looked at them.. It's probably more reading error on my part, than spedo error of 9mph.

The car does indeed shift about 2-300 before redline.. very odd when you consider the redline is 4700rpm, rather low for such a robust engine.
