What's the problem? You park the car, crack open the alternator and pour a little oil on the bearings. Back on the road in an hour and probably good across the next couple states. Drop in an alternator shop and get some new parts. That alternator proved itself, don't give up on it now.
If it was really an emergency you could probably just dump some oil on the frozen alt pulleys and let the belt slip on them. That would get you to the next town. May have to slack the belts and re-oil them every few miles.
There are really too many solutions to this one to get into. If that problem beats your car, it beat you first. Don't let it beat you.
I thank God those days are behind me now. I hope he is listening.
