Greetings Forum and my rebaptism into the MB diesel world today
Greetings everyone in the Shopforum Diesel world. I reentered the MB diesel world last week with the ebay purchase of a China Blue 1980 240D that I love dearly. I started with a 1979 300TD that I rescued from my Dad's shop's boneyard in 1993 or so. I rebuilt the engine and the car and rapidly fell off the cliff owning 4 240 115s (one was my wife's engagement ring) and a 124 300D before getting distracted by speed and a quick succession of Porsches that never made me very happy. After I brought the new 123 home last week, I changed all of the filters and fluids, adjusted the valves, replaced the shocks and tires, sourced two matching blue hubcaps for the missing ones and brought everything up to commuting spec (120 miles 3 times a week). I thought I had it all under control. Until today 20 miles from work when the car shut off completely with no warning. I coasted to the side of the road and popped the hood expecting that the thottle linkage had popped off the IP. Nope...hmmm..filters must be clogged from the B100..spares in the trunk... Replaced the filters, pumped the pump...nothing...cracked the fuel lines and bled out the air...nothing...removed the large filter and filled it with fuel from the old filter just in case it had too much air...nothing...discuss tow starting with the NCDOT rescue crew that stopped just after I did and have been watching me with amused detachment while my frenzy builds. I look at the IP and I can't believe it let me down...I reach for my cell phone to call AAA and then the car repair mantra of old flashes in front of my eyes...its most likely the simplest thing you can think of...I look over at the DOT guy and ask if he has any diesel...I was at work 20 minutes later. I need a fuel level sender.
Looking forward to learning from all of you.
Best,
