J. Ko:
I don't know if there are any differences - I read on the MBCA chat list that OE could mean just about anything, that the part may be aftermarket for MB but never used by MB, while OEM meant that the company was an approved supplier to MB. However, I have seen the terms used interchangably, and am confused myself.
The local MB dealer will sell me a "real MB, not OEM" (in their words)rear pipe/muffler for $370, installation extra, while a local muffler shop recommended by my independent MB tech will sell me an "OE" MB muffler for $226, INSTALLED!
This $150+ difference is why I am asking the question. I don't want to "save" money with a high back pressure rust prone muffler, but don't feel like playing Santa to the dealer if there is no difference in performance or quality.
