Agree the Getregs run a little too wide.
I cant speak for any of the other engines. But the M120 V12 runs really nice with the 722.6 automatic in 5th gear at 0.83 with a 2.47 diff. Gas mileage is really high in that configuration. Using a 3.06 diff I can get pretty close to the same results. But on the low gear side it would be the equivalent of having about 5.0 for first.
I was looking into a T56 and I find the opposite problem in the low gears. Finding gear sets numerically higher that 3.06 for the large case MB's is difficult.
The V160 Getreg used in the Toyota supra appears to have a more reasonable set of gear ratios a range of 3.827 to 0.793 but not sure how much torque it can take.
Also trying to find specs on some of the Nissan Z transmissions.
