If the torque converter lockup clutch engages, it would turn less. I don't have experience with either diesels personally on the road...But numbers are numbers.

0.83 x 3.46 = ~2.87

1 x 2.87 = 2.87

1996 E300 diesel with 4 speed non-locker (has 2.87 rear) vs 1997 with 5 speed lock up torque converter (has 3.46 rear)...Although I heard some of the earlier 722.6x transmissions had the lock up feature disabled because of complaints of undesired harshness.
