I agree with you Stretch on that the problem is with electricity surrounding the pump, because if it was a mechanical fault it was supposed to show signs before it stopped. Do you think it is the wires leading to the sensors on the pump or the sensors themselves or both? Maybe further describing the location of the sensors on the pump might be of help. The has got two sensors ,as the side of the pump with a gear(the one which goes on the timing side of the engine) is facing away from you ,on the top left there is a sensor(black and rectangular in shape) bolted to the pump by four bolts and it has got seven wires leading to the ECU(computer box I think).Then at the back of the pump below the pipes which feed the injectors with diesel there is another sensor with only two wires.
