Be gentle with the Lid because the electrical circuit runs through the Hinged area of the lid and that is where mine failed. Sometimes fooling with the Lid gets it to work but mostly not.
Another option would be to but the extended warranty.

I bought the larger version to replace the little one and the extended warranty.
On that one the lid is just a lid.

You also might try using something like Purple Power mixed how you like it instead of the Powdered Cleaner.
