I dont know the location of the casting number, but can find out from a friend in the morning. I am thinking around the top of the bellhousing like other MB engines.
A 5.0 would be an interesting swap, as in stock, non agressive ECU map, it has like 40 more torques, and about the same HP.... Not to mention lower compression than the 5.4, making for a perfect candidate for forced induction!
(I have been thinking of picking up a C43 and frankensteining something...
