The filter on the 280SL is also conical and sets ahead of the left fender. It looks alot like yours. This is why I was asking if they are in fact the same or not. I tried once to mount a 280SL filter on my 280E, but there just wasn't enough room. This type of air filter really keeps the engine-compartment clutter down to a minimum.
