The author of the article said you'd need a large salary (professor's income) to repair the vehicle if anything major came up. Somewhat true... but what 'major' happens in a 123? Rust, broken timing chain, worn turbo. That's all I can think of. Still pretty rebuildable and CHEAP compared to other vehicles even considering a rebuild.
