but the importing isn't a problem, they can be easily had. The government had a few on the auction block last summer from USMC G Wagons. The IDI vs DI torque/HP nymbers are similar, but the key is efficiency to get there. The Direct Injection has almost aways had WAY better fuel economy. The numbers are as much as 20% over IDI. The prechamber steals a lot of heat energy that can get sent to the rear wheels. No glow system is nice too. The noise is an issue as DI's are much louder, but can be dealt with. Not all versions were computer controlled either. The G wagens had them with NO computer to keep up with the KISS principle. I guess the question is will the cost recovery of DI over IDI ever make a difference? Probably not, but ya gotta admit, a VERY COOl swap!
